Case Study - Blast Resistant - Safe, Secure and Protected from Danger.

A major multi-national Petrochemical Company who required bespoke solutions for a major European mainland oil refinery.

The security and safety of all employees are paramount. This is particularly key in the Petrochemical industry where the potential risk of explosion is common. Although the industry has an excellent safety record, things can and do go wrong sometimes and the need for a safe refuge for staff or store for sensitive materials is not only desirable but legislative.

What is a Blast Resistant Modular Building?

Put simply it’s a modular structure that is manufactured to withstand significant explosions and to protect personnel and equipment in hazardous environments like those encountered at oil refineries, chemical processing plants and other types of factory sites which can have explosive or flammable materials.

The Project – Blast Resistant Modules for the Netherlands

Our Modular Building Manufacturing Division was contacted by a major multi-national Petrochemical Company. They had an urgent requirement for ten bespoke manufactured blast-resistant modular buildings which were to be used as an on-site emergency refuge at their refinery in the Netherlands. We were able to meet the clients demands on the tight lead-time and after initial discussions, our modular manufacturing team designed and modelled a bespoke solution which would more than meet the demands of the client and industry legislation.

The team at Eldapoint manufactured ten modules to our customer's exact design configuration and to 320mbar (100msec) Free-field specification, which is a high specification for blast resistant buildings.

Our customer also requested a number of external and internal design features, along with particular safety elements including 3 phase electrical supply, heaters, lighting and an air-conditioning system complete with emergency gas detection shut off. The units were painted to the customer's specifications and fully lined and floored. In addition, our client advised us that at some point in the future the modules would be relocated to Belgium and as such the domestic electrics would have to be compatible for use in both countries.

The photo gallery below shows a range of blast resistant modular units which are produced by Eldapoint’s manufacturing division based on Merseyside.

Project Outcome – Tight Deadline and Overseas Delivery

As our client had an extremely tight deadline for manufacture and delivery, good project planning and management were key to meeting expectations. Our team met all the criteria.
