Case Study - Pop up Bar and Event Space Transforms Brighton Sea Front.

Shipping container conversion projects have no limitations, except imagination, which thus far appears to be endless.

Eldapoint has developed used shipping containers into a vast range of uses from classrooms and holiday pods to cafes and shops. Our latest project for a long-standing client has seen an area on the edge of one of the UK's most famous beaches transformed for the festive season.

Brighton is one of the UK's most popular seaside resort towns well known for its vibrant club scene and year-round events. Much of the focus for Brighton's outdoor season during the summer months is around the beachfront, and for those intrepid adventurers, there is also an annual New Year's day swim!

Even with the milder climate on England's south coast, the beach is pretty much off-limits during the winter months to all except maybe the odd dog walker and occasional swimmer. When the local bar, restaurant and venue Brighton Music Hall came up with the vision to transform their outdoor area which fringes the beach into an events space for the festive season, there was great excitement from regular customers and visitors looking to spend some holiday time by the sea.

Brighton Music Hall is well-known in the area for hosting music events throughout the summer, and as soon as they announced the Brighton Beach Box and Igloos, there was a clamber to book for parties and especially New Year's Eve.

The Container Conversion Venue Project

The client outlined the available space and any access restrictions which is an important area to remember before planning any project. Eldapoint conversions division using artist impressions and cad drawings selected four used 40' High Cube containers which were cut to specific sizes allowing them to be joined to cover a total internal area of 120 sq metres, matching the detailed plans. A key element of the project brief specified a bespoke paint finish across each unit, including specialist pink paintwork and company branding which was completed by Eldapoint's paint shop team.

Our conversions team fitted additional steelwork to three areas of the combined units to allow the upper levels for use as a roof terrace bar which was connected to the ground level by double size staircase with safety handrails which also served as a windbreak from the sea.

Eldapoint offers a full turnkey solution for conversion projects which includes electrical and plumbing for utilities where required, a full bespoke internal fit-out which can include kitchens, toilets, internal walls and doors and our paint shop team will finish the shipping container conversion with bespoke paintwork and graphics.

The full installation took a week with the individual sections craned into position, and the staircase and other elements fixed onsite. Heating and lighting, including a chandelier, were also added to ensure all guests had a great experience and a comfortable time. The container bar and event space formed part of a more extensive beachfront area in front of Brighton Music Hall which also includes heated igloos which can be hired by groups of revellers during the festive period. Three of the igloos were installed on the upper deck of the beach box protecting customers from the elements and making good use of the space available.

The Management at Brighton Music Hall was overwhelmed by the quality of the units and the professionalism of the installation team who took great care and pride over the week-long process and praised for a superb job.

The Brighton beach box is such a great success that similar projects are in the pipeline across the UK. We look forward to being part of the next pop up event space near you.
